Southwestern Exposure

Been ages since I posted. Me and my co-worker/buddy Jared, are finally ensconced in a shack in the metropolis of Paonia, Colorado, population: 1,400. Last week a herd of confused elk wandered through the town at 5:30 a.m. I feel like I'm in an old episode of Northern Exposure!

Timber crew has been way more technical than I expected. I don't know dick about silviculture and they're all majoring in it at college.

Broke a personal record the other day. I hiked and worked at 9,870 feet above sea level. There is no air or ozone layer. I'm getting sunburned over my tan over and over again. Between the mosquitos, the sun and the spray paint, we all look like beekeepers covered in green paint.

Taking the Pack Test next week and then a picnic/get-together with all the Forest Service and BLM people. Should be intersting. Will be sucking up to engine captains and giving them my cell phone number in the hopes I can go on some wildfires and make enough to get the hell outta Bush's Amerika come October.

The Mesa College library nazis are telling us we all have to bail, 'cos they're closing.

Over and out,
